I have an Aloe Vera, Christmas Cactus, Burro Tail, and Snake Plant that I'd like to put outside during warm weather. Our patio is south-facing and exposed to direct sunshine. The Aloe Vera definitely does not like direct sunshine; even if it's for just half as day, it turns a sickly brown pretty fast. The Christmas Cactus gets brownish/yellowish tips, and the Snake Plant turns pale. Even if it gets shade for the second half of the day, these plants do not seem to like direct sunshine.

But I would still like to get them outdoors if possible. It would open up a little more room in the kitchen, and the grow light could be turned off.

Can anybody here recommend a screen or some kind of partial shade device that I can use to put these plants outside but not kill them? Is the only option full shade by putting an actual object between them and the Sun (e.g., a beach umbrella)?

You can buy shade cloth for plants in lots of places; even Home Depot sells it.

My aloes spend their summers on an outside south facing windowsill, partly behind grape vines, that are growing on the wall. They seem to tolerate some hours of direct sun pretty well.
