Great stuff! Thanks. I think the trick with 'Summer Gold' is, yes it will take full sun, but only if the summer is hot enough to really ripen the wood. Mine was miserable, but now is getting some shade and doing much better.

'Kiyohime' seems less troublesome than a lot of these small-leaved forms. I'm hoping this is what mine will do.

Acer nipponicum has got to be one of the most troublesome maples to grow in ground. I've heard this from many arboretums, I just don't know what to give it. I finally pulled mine back into a pot, it just kept getting smaller! The one I kept in a pot from the beginning is now about 2.5 m, so it will be the next to try while to other one recovers. It's doing well enough in an airpot for now, and in the shade!

That's a really good one, thanks again for sharing. Cheers, -E

This tree had so many seedlings beneath it.
I 'snuck' one out and brought it home.

    Hi,
It's always fun to grow from seeds or take seedlings, but it's very uncertain to get the same form.
We "saved" two seedlings from a Koto-no-Ito in April last year, at Wespelaar arboretum. So far, far from the type and nothing spectacular, but since it's my friend who "snuck" them, I take care of them ;-)
