Thought I'd start Alain's thread idea. Maples in Summer. I tend to just take mostly take garden pictures in the more mature parts, and focus on individuals in the newer parts or pots. Here's a few to start. I haven't labeled, feel free to ask if anything in particular perks your interest.

And lets see how your maples look in the summer!

Beautiful pictures. I really like the variety of textures and colors together. My pictures are taken over several weeks. The Twombley's Red Sentinel is pretty much covered now by leaves from two other trees nearby. And the Japanese Princess in no longer peach colored. I think I have the oldest 9 inch tall Geisha Gone Wild in existence. Keep waiting for it to die but this year it has some more new growth so maybe it has decided not to give up yet! Really surprised how tall some of the trees are getting. Haven't purchased any new ones this year as my husband says there is no more room and I think he is probably right. Have a bunch of tiny seedlings I have found under my trees in pots so that will have to do for now. Hi Otto,

We're going to have almost 29°C in a couple of days, so what do you call "Spring" ? <LOL>

    https://www.pleinchamp.com/meteo/heure-par-heure/45000-orleans

See the hose in the first picture, used every day, and the samaras on the Acer mospessulanum in the top right of the third photo.
Not summer yet ? Hah ! Here, it is... ;°)

This is what I get year on year from Shirazz, now 2m tall and in a very sunny spot..I wondered whether I was giving it enough sun in previous years, but this year has made little difference apart from a richer pink..has anyone else found that this cultivar does not grow out true? I’m not grumbling!

Hi there. Here is my Shirazz, which is grown in full shade, more or less (it gets ~2-3 hours of sun in the early morning). The top leaves show the typical variegation; under leaves are slightly more faded green.

I know that some trees lose their variegation when mature..I wondered whether if this is simply it

It's a bit over 6 feet tall, so call it 2 meters.

Well I guess we reached meteorological summer today, still wish circinatum was not in such a rush for summer colors.

    It certainly feels like summer...

Something went wrong with my photo processing, I don't think these have shrunk. But anyway. No labels, ask if you wish, and if I don't say.

Acer cappadocicum ssp. sinicum is the best,

Kumoi-nishiki is growing very enthusiastically, in spite of a big early injury.

Shots in the "New Section." Tharandt and Nanum are always admirable.

In the older section, the snow really messed up my "windows", I'm realizing how much pruning is in my future to recover views,

A couple of good specimen trees: Silver Cardinal, one of the largest I've seen personally, and A. mandshuricum, a great tree.

Just a couple of trees, Acer rubrum 'Candy Ice' and Acer 'Beni-uki-gumo',

I put the last picture in the TMSBI eBulletin, in my article about the meanings of various Japanese reds in cultivars, which I hope our members enjoyed. When "Beni", 紅, is written in the phonetic kana, Hiragana: べに it means "lipstick." -E

After weeks of drought and heat, days of rain, rain, rain...

The seedling from 'Mon Papa' had nice red colours, but they're a bit pale though I added some fertilizer with chelated iron.
The leaves of 'Skeeter's Broom' have this rounded central lobe that is, according to what Emery told me once, a characteristic of many witche's brooms.

@AlainK Hope all is well..The Mon papa seedling is looking great! I’ve not seen a green Starfish over here, only deep red, is this a different variety?
Here is my Skeeters Broom - it’s a really strong grower, now 3m and seems to tolerate plenty of sun!

Trees look great guys. The stunted central lobe is the defining characteristic of a WB, but as you can see on Rich's, it's not there on every leaf.

Is 'Starfish' the same as 'Pévé Starfish'? I've never been quite sure, and Alain's looks very green.

It was my understanding that Peve Starfish and Starfish were both red or even synonyms..I did see one once that had been grown under a white tarp on a pergola as a display at a pond shop that never got direct sun and that was green!

Btw my Tsuma Gaki looks ropey already, it’s in the same optimal sheltered spot as previous years with good wind protection and 2hours morning sun and watering only rain water!

For sure growing most reds in full shade will make them go green, there are a few exceptions like 'Garnet'. The DB has a note "Commonly listed as Starfish", but we don't list 'Starfish' as a synonym, and I guess we should if it is the same. We don't list "Starfish" at all. I guess it needs looking into... -E
