    the allure of orchids

We all understand the allure of new discovery, but the level to which some will go - breaking the law and breaching the code of scientific ethics - to be the first to identify a new species, can be puzzling. I guess the fame (and in many cases the money) lead people into this type of orchid-mania. Although having seen photos of Phragmipedium kovachii the excitement is somewhat understandable.

For more discussion of the implications of all this to the botanical world read the article World of intrigue revolves around tale of orchid-napping from the Sun-Sentinel.
