    Hello everyone,

Any help on where i would start to troubleshoot what is happening here?
Lower branches are browning and dying from the trunk - out.
Planted last year. Some have grown more than others.
We had a harsh winter this year with record snow - if that means anything.
    Here are some pictures

What's the wider situation? In these photos, it looks a rather shady place, which is far from ideal for Mediterranean Cypress. The extra snow shouldn't hurt it, probably be beneficial for a newly planted tree in fact.

Oh they get plenty of sun. There is some shade at certain times of the day but this is California mountains - we get cooked. Pictures coming

Thanks! I'd say shade is still an issue there, with that Ponderosa Pine, and houses close by either side. The pine's roots may well also be competing with them for water and nutrients (though, keep that pine for definite, it's far too nice to suggest to remove it!). All said though, they don't look too bad to me, a good chance they will recover once fully established.

Thanks Michael. The house to the left is NE. Morning sun is unimpeded once it is above the hill (behind the pine).
Then they get full blast until 3pm at which point my house - to the right - starts blocking direct sun.

Anything else you suggest i do to give them a better chance? Fertilization, nutrients, less/more watering? I used to water everyday last year when planted, then we had a record snow winter and then spring with high night mist so i went to every 4 days wth a good drench. Was getting some floppy branches - thus pulled back on the watering. Maybe that was too much.

Anything i can check/do to rule out canker or pests or anything like that?
