This 'Accolade' must be planted on its own roots, because it giving off an impression different from any other 'Accolade' I've come across. Even finishing its bloom at March 31, 2026, it reveals an almost balletic form with the pale pinks floating off thin, elegant branches. Much more beautiful than the house behind it on the south side of William, east of Rose.
On the north side of William, east of Lakewood, the 'Takasago' "Queen" is in full bloom, with emerging leaves, at March 31, 2026.
The 'Rancho' trees have taken over Victoria Drive, north of Broadway. On both sides of Victoria, the 'Rancho' line runs north for blocks. In full bloom at March 31, 2026.
The marker for this 'Akebono' at 1248 E Pender was added to the festival map in 2012 by the home owner. There was never a posting for it, and the photo was not stored on these forums and is now lost. Isabel Dove has sent new photos, but is unable to post on these forums. So here they are, and I will link this posting to map marker. Every now and then (more often than that implies) I come across missing map photos and I'm usually able to restore them, but in this case, it's just a fortunate accident that I came across the missing photo when there were still a few flowers.
The champagne glasses of the 'Kiku-zakura' trees are in bloom along both sides of William Street, between Garden and Templeton, at April 17, 2026. The bloom is comprehensive, from the deep red carnation buds to the full chrysanthemum look.
An even fuller set of champagne glasses are available along Graveley, between Garden and Templeton. The bloom looks slightly ahead at April 17, 20026. Prunus avium shoot detected on one of the trees here.
The 'Ito-kukuri' tree that was on Lakewood and E. 6 is no more. As I was disgruntledly (uttering little grunts) leaving Lakewood, what do I see but this flimsy-looking pole trying to be a tree. Weeping form, double flowers, bulbous calyces, pubescence—it is a new 'Yae-beni-shidare' in the white colouring of its end bloom! On the southwest corner of Lakewood and E. 7th, at April 17, 2026.
