    Very strange claim!
In what units this comparison was made and what were the numeric results? Was it tons per hectare per year or just tons per hectare?
I know, peat moss can adsorb a lot of Carbon over thousands of years. Peat layer can reach thickness over 20 meters, weighing over 10 tons per square metre. But the article talks about mosses, that grow in cities on roofs, walls and pavements. Where there are those tons per square metre?
They say, that the Coast Redwood forest in northern California, USA has above-ground biomass over 4,000 metric tons per hectare (400 kg per m²). The below-ground biomass should add at least another 10%.
Show me a moss in some city roof, wall or pavement, that has larger biomass than 16,000 metric tons per hectare (1600 kg per m²)!
I'm afraid of, that if on the roof there was a moss, that can reach mass of 1600 kg per m², then this moss would not save you, but kills you through breaking your roof with its weight.
