This 'Pink Perfection' located in the north side of Community Rotunda of Burnaby looks much better than other two 'Pink Perfection' trees located in the south side, and is blooming beautifully.
April 21, 2026 Tao: I had some doubt about it being 'Yokihi' after I had posted it for few days, so I asked @wcutler for help. Wendy looked into it and passed it to director Justice. Director Justice thinks it is 'Ito-kukuri' and a BCIT-derived tree. Then the homeowner also confirms that they got the tree, 'Ito-kukuri', from BCIT 10 years ago. Wendy and director Justice, thank you for taking your time from your busy schedule to help.
A cherry tree on 6138 Denbigh avenue is at the end of bloom period, only a few of flowers left on the tree. I don't know what cultivar it is. So I took a lot of photos. We can find out more next year when it blooms. Photos 5-9 were taken from suckers.
I'm wondering about 'Atsumori' because of the shape of the sepals, the similarity of the colouring to the flower photo by Sunny Chen posted at https://forums.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/threads/west-point-grey.37850/page-4#post-407394, hairs on the pedicels (I'm not sure the ones in your photo would be considered "downy", leaf margins sort of similar to posted ones. Are the flowers quite small, like 3cm?
Wendy, the flowers on sucker are smaller, about coin quarter size. The flowers on upper of the tree are bigger, about 3cm to 3.5cm. Also hairs on the pedicels, I am going to attach another photo from my laptop to show it. While @wcutler was in conversation with the owner of the two BCIT sourced trees on Dubois and Joffre, I paid closer attention to the beautiful ‘Ito-kukuri’. The blossoms really do look like they are ‘bundled with thread’ as the name implies.
