Our oldest tree on the property is our bloodgood, still pales in size next to the Canadian maple tree on the left. Right next to the bloodgood on the left is the Beni Kawa ( dwarf version of the sangu kaku). And on the far left in front of the large Canadian maple is a Tanyosho pine that we planted in 1998.
On the right of the bloodgood is our walnut tree in fall colours.
In front of the walnut is our sequoia ( California redwood) tree. We planted the walnut tree from an actual walnut back in 1992. We purchased the sequoia in a one gallon plot in 1993.
The colour contrast of the Canadian and Japanese maple is always striking in the fall

Some of my trees that were in full sun suffered from leaf-scorch, and most of them didn't keep their colours very long. But a few of those in the shade are still green.

... and after the rain, we'll have a rather sunny weather for a couple of days, and they even forecast 19°C for Thursday (winds from the Mediterranean area), I think I've never seen that in November.
Climate change is NOT a hoax !

Acer laevigatum is OK. We can still have temps under 10°C occasionally, especially in February, but so far, it's all right.
It definitely wants a bigger pot, or I must buy some land to start an arboretum ;-)

We had a thin layer of snow last Friday, and morning frost for a couple of days. The "not-a-discolor" is in a more protected area :

Weather does stink now, we had a bunch of snow, now rain and mud. Still trying to get everything put away, endless. I had taken some more pics previously, just never got around to sharing. Here are some.

Villa Taranto, A. tenuifolium and Yasemin, Shishi-gashira, Acers longipes, schneiderianum, catalpifolium, Acer schneiderianum, Pixie, Ō-kagami, Crippsii, Orange Dream, schneiderianum, "Ze Larch."

Many of the orange maples are much more red, e.g. schneiderianum and Shishi-gashira.

Did you know that Ō-kagami (The Great Mirror) is one of the Four Mirrors, chronicles of Ancient Japan? The Great Mirror tells the story of the Fujiwara Clan, between 850 - 1024, during the height of the Heian Period, the "golden age" of Imperial Japan. The other mirrors are Ima-kagami, The Mirror of the Present, covering 1025 to 1170; Mizu-kagami, The Water Mirror covers the mythical time of Japan prior to 850 CE; and Masu-kagami, The Clear Mirror, chronicles the period between 1183 - 1333 CE, during the Kamakura Shogunate. I believe it's the only other "mirror" that has a cultivar named for it.

The colouring is so different on the 'Shishi-gashira' posted by @emery and by @Otto Bjornson three postings up, though both look very vibrant. I'm not saying that's an issue - I'm sure that happens all the time, particularly in such different locations.

Emery, thanks for the Four Mirrors explanation.

Otto's example is much more typical of the colors ours would take, though more orange. There is always a little bit of red, but rarely like this year.

Depending on the environmental conditions year-to-year, it's worth while remembering that JM colors change a lot. Why, our Flavenscens here, (even though named for it's spring color, not autumn), has been red two years in a row! ;) -E

Quite a strong colour here in Midlands UK - potted specimen - it’s normally more yellow than strong rust orange for me

Wow, Mark! Rich, the colours you have there are usually about as rich as we ever see. Not exactly subtle, but a little more laid back! -E

Not one of it's best years for colour , very dark for my liking to be honest , prefer it when it's more of a rich golden leaf. The summer months certainly caused a few strange variations colour wise this fall , the dry months have been of concern some what but we are now recovering with endless rain here in the north ( still have a hose pipe ban though ) at present.

Some odd occurrences for sure..I had a 3m Skeeters broom defoliate for no apparent reason. There seems to be more samaras this year than usual..but this on and off rain doesn’t provide a lot of time for them to dry out for collection.

Glad to see the forum back online. Looks like a thick-stemmed Mikawa-yatsubusa in there?
