Two new (maybe two of the same) buddies spotted blooming today. Will be planted out this fall! Delighted at the early flowering. Also spotted flowering in mid-march, the Carolina Spicebush, which will also go out this year.
It's the season for Acer Buddies! Here are a few current ones, that are really in with the maples: Columbine, it has a real name but I don't know it. The colors mix, seed, make new colors and are always great with maples in Spring. My new yllow didn't bloom this year, but next year I hope. First bloom for this Viburnum trilobum, in with a big new bed of maples, the only buddy there yet, but I'll probably do another couple of companion plantings. I've put in a couple of smaller/lower maples in between so far, Zoƫ and Murasaki-kiyohime so far. This is first bloom for Rhodie 'Lord Roberts'. It is very red. I bought to put in a bank of them, but only one lived, sadly... It should still make a nice presence though, not all that small. -E
Cornus kousa Cornus hongkongensis - glossy new leaves and tiny flowers with a hint of pink at the edge
Hey Rich, I got one of the hongkonensis too today, but a little behind you there. Mostly about roses, and some fading Weigela.
