How to include photos and files in your posts

There is a separate page for instructions for uploading photos from a mobile device: Attach photos and files from Mobile Device

Here is a basic video on how to add a photo to a posting on the UBCBG Forums. Note that the photos need to be your own, or ones specifically licensed for sharing.
There are other ways to get the job done, and we don't stop you from doing this any way you can manage, but if you are having trouble, the video shows you how the software provider recommends you do it, and it works well this way. You can upload the files before, while or after you have typed what you want to say.

This video shows how to add more than one photo, and how to attach the photos into the text area, which the software provider recommends.
The video describes how to include the photos in the text area.
    1. Click the Upload a File button under the text area
    2. Navigate to your photo location; you can select at one time all the files in that folder that you want to upload (ctrl+click, or shift+click if they are all together), or you can do them one-by-one.
    3. If you want all the photos together, position your cursor on a new line at the end of your posting and click the Thumbnail button that says Insert every Thumbnail.
    4. If you want the photos in different places, position your cursor where you want the first one, and click the Thumbnail button for the photo you want there. You can then put another photo next to one you've just inserted, or reposition your cursor wherever you want each of the next ones. If you do them separately, make sure you've inserted them all.
It's not of major importance that you attach the photos after uploading them, but the thumbnails are larger and easier for people to see, and the software provider suggests doing it that way.

    Some constraints:
Note that you can upload up to 20 photos in a single posting. You can generally use the photo as saved to your camera or mobile device, but if you get a message saying that your photo size limit has been exceeded, you will have to reduce the pixels. The system resizes to around 1200 x 1500, so using an export function or file size reduction function on your computer, select a size similar to that. Of course, photos will upload a lot faster if they are 500kb instead of 5mb, but make sure that you are reducing only the photo quality - try to keep the dimensions of the photos full-screen size. The system does a good job of this when it does it for you.

    ===============================
This video was posted by a company that uses the same software that we use. It's pretty close to how our system works, but there are some differences:

The video shows a second button next to the Thumbnail button, for Full Size. They discourage using that button, and we have removed it.

    --------------------------------------------
    Videos

    Here is a summary:
Paste in the URL for a video on external media.
If your video is not on external media, you can upload it to a folder via the Media-Button_upper-right.jpg button; in your posting, click the Media-Gallery-Imbed_Camera-icon.jpg button on the toolbar to select your video.

Here it is again using more words.

    Link/Imbed from the internet

If you want to link to a video that is on the internet, you can just paste the URL into your posting. The system now embeds it automatically.
There is Media button Media-Button.jpg on the toolbar that brings up a line in which to paste the URL, but it’s not necessary to use that. It does, though, remind you from what sites you can imbed videos: Dailymotion, Facebook, Liveleak, Metacafe, Vimeo, YouTube.

    Insert your own video

We would prefer for videos to be hosted on external media. That said, if you want to upload a video that is not on external media, the system will insist that you upload it to a folder. To do that:

    Upload the video

Click the Media button at the upper right. Media-Button_upper-right.jpg

    Select Add Media
    Media-Add-Media-To.jpg
Select An album. A dropdown appears with existing albums or the option to add an album.
If an existing album sounds appropriate, select it, else click Add an album… .

On the Create Album screen, fill in the new album name, description, and who all can view and add media to your album.

    Click Create Album.

This screen appears with the option to Upload a Video or Embed a Video.
    Media-Embed.jpg
Select the Upload a Video option. (The Embed option leads you to name a video on external media). Click the Upload Video button to locate your video. Video limits generally are:
    Media-Upload-Limits.jpg
After your video is uploaded, a screen appears where you can add a description and tags. After entering what you want, click the Save Media button.

This takes you to a screen that shows all the videos in the selected folder, with your uploaded video the first one shown. If it is shown with no thumbnail or preview picture, you can click the image and go to a screen where you can edit the photo or upload a photo to be used as a thumbnail.

    Insert an uploaded video

    Option 1, less simple.

A screen with your video comes up immediately after you have uploaded it. If you are ready to select this video for your posting, look on the right side of the screen for the Share This Media section. Copy the code in the box under Share BB [GALLERY] Code: (click to highlight the code, right click and select Copy, or type Ctrl C).

This method is required if you want to embed media that is not yours, that does not come up automatically in the simple option below. In that case, you need to click the Media button, browse or search all the albums (options on the left) and navigate to the video you want. If it was posted allowing you to share it, you will see the code to copy on the right side of the screen.

In your posting, paste the code where you want your video to display (right click and select Paste, or type Ctrl V).

Option 2, simple. In your posting, position your cursor where you want the video. Click the Camera button Media-Gallery-Imbed_Camera-icon.jpg at the end of the toolbar, which will display your media, in order by latest first. Select the video you want and it will be embedded at your cursor position.
