      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Hello! can anyone please share any tips/experiences with using seaweed as mulch or compost. I am not talking about the seaweed extract liquid that you can buy at the store. i am talking about the stuff you get at the beach :) i will sum up my questions:<br />

1. can i just add fresh seaweed to my garden beds? will the saltyness hurt the soil? i have heard you can just dig it in around the beds, but always have hesitated with the saltyness. would rinsing it first help?<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Is it possible to prepare, say, a gallon of water with a few drops of the liquid fertilizer (whatever the brand you are using, half of the recommended dosage) and leave it in a plastic gallon jug? I never use enough for what is directed on some of my fertilizer bottles, and was wondering if it would be ok to leave it already mixed and use it as I need it.<br />

Since using biochar I have found improved soil structure and fertility.  Plants grow like crazy! The charcoal apparently hangs onto nutrients and provides an environment for essential micro-organisms necessary for healthy plant growth.  <br />

A few in this Forum know my garden by now from photos. For those who don&#039;t it is situated between to houses and get nice full south sun in summer but in winter its mainly shade.<br />
I had to cut down all the RED RUSSIAN KALE as it was so infested by aphids I could not eat it anymore. So i cut it down to the earth with the hope that it will make new growth by the next month...<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Several years ago in Kyoto I bought a small fern in what looks like a charcoalized tree trunk, about 3 inches high x 3 inches across.  Like the moss balls with bonsai-ed trees, shrubs, etc. these had to be watered daily and there was a wide variety of plants offered including small Japanese maples.<br />

The top is hollowed out to accept the plant.  I have planted my own plugs in it over the years with varying success (appropriate plugs difficult to get locally).  I am really curious to know...<br />

This pond happen to be frequented by racoons that use the area as a latrine. Both of these being near to impossible to get rid of. To clean up the racoon&#039;s mess which can some times stick to the surrounding rocks and plants I simply wash down with a hose into the pond feeding the duckweed which flourishes as the result of this food source. The water level in my 11&#039;x30&#039; cistern has gone up 14&quot; in the past week. A bucket left out for 24 hours had 4 or 5&quot; in it. Hi. I grow swamp plants, and need to have the soil box inside a box filled with water. But I recognize that the water develops an odor, and wonder if it makes sense to do something about it, and if, how and what to do. I don&#039;t want the plants to suffer, but I want to get rid of the foulish smell of the water.<br />

Also, I see that much of the white sand and white stones become covered with a light green algae or something like that. If I would decide (not sure yet)...</span><br />
