This shrub grows wild in the woods (lower NY zone 5) and I never noticed it until this fall when I saw the beautiful bright rose leaves and went to investigate.  It has a most unusual bark.  The younger stems are green and surrounded by tan fins about 1-1.5 inches long which circle around the stem so that there are 4 fins that alternate working their way up the whole stem.  I think you can see them in the picture.  The leaves are opposite each other and I don&#039;t...<br />

I have seen this plant in Madagascar. <br />
This one was around 1,5 m high and looked like a it was fully grown. <br />
The leaves are very soft, like velvet.<br />
I have been told that it&#039;s sometimes locally called Napoleon&#039;hat due to the shape of the leaves.<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[I&#039;ve been wandering around the Tri-cities area looking for Small-leaved Linden trees, from which I&#039;d like to gather some seeds. Specifically looking for Tilia cordata. Hoping to start some of my own little trees.<br />
<br />
However, I keep coming across trees that the &quot;Seek&quot; app on my phone identifies as Katsura trees.<br />
Both trees have heart shaped leaves and little brown nutlets. They are so similar looking that even the phone app mixes them up often.<br />
<br />
So I&#039;m here to ask: how to differentiate these...<br />

I’ve been told that it is an osmanthus fragans, however, I don’t have information on the variety.  It has tiny white flowers and dark green leaves and quite a heavy perfume.   Looking for confirmation of plant identity and variety.  The tree is about four feet high and is currently outside for the summer.  I understand that not all varieties can be overwintered outside in the lower mainland .]]></content:encoded>

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[The tree in the pictures is in Edenbridge, Kent, England. It is situated in near full sun at the base of a slight slope, at the edge of a front garden.<br />
The soil in the area is heavy clay.<br />
It seems likely, it was planted as a specimen tree many years ago.<br />
I have walked past it for years, this year it seems to be looking especially good.<br />
It has been a hot summer.<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[The photographs, taken today, 06th July 2025 in a very large field, growing just this plant, was I thought at first possibly Linseed, which has a blue flower and is grown locally, Edenbridge, Kent England.<br />
But the flower is different.<br />
The height of each plant of these plants is variable, from about 2ft to possibly 6ft.<br />
Some plants have many leaves up the stem, some just a cluster at the bottom.<br />
The field is vast, I assume this is an agricultural crop?<br />
Any I.D. appreciated.<br />
