We planted the seed in a cup of water to try it out and the resulting plant has been successful for a few years. I think it is three years old now.<br />
<br />
It is in a pot, and will need to be put in a bigger pot soon.<br />
And it needs to be brought indoors during winters, and cold evenings, so a high ceiling or a greenhouse is recommended.<br />
I replaced one of the pot lights in our ceiling with a grow light, but our ceiling is only 8&#039; high and the tree is now bumping...<br />

I can cut a group of rhizomes of any size out of the cluster for transplanting, with or without attached culms.  Note that the culms are mostly more than 10 ft tall; so, a truck would be useful for transporting them, although perhaps the rhizomes and culms could be transported on a car&#039;s roof , fastened to a rack. The pot was used last summer, and I had put it along a fence with all the other pots last Autumn when the growing season was finishing.<br />

I noticed the sapling a couple weeks ago, growing out of a nut. It was probably dropped there by a crow or squirrel, and was only half buried, so I put a few scoops of soil over it to cover it completely.<br />

It is still in its original packaging; never been opened.<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[I am pleased to host a plant swap at my house in Burnaby (close to Imperial St &amp; Canada Way) on the afternoon of Sunday, Oct 18, let&#039;s say 1:30pm (no earlier than 1pm) until 4:30pm (or so).<br />

All in the Vancouver BC area are welcome, including &quot;newbie&quot; gardeners.  ;-)  Come join us for a good time of plant swapping, chatting about plants, etc.  Bring your garden extras and find them good homes.  Come away with new plants to try, and new gardening friends.<br />

This springs lower mainland swap will be in Maple Ridge on Sunday April 22nd from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.  All are welcome.  We have been doing this for a few years and the spring swap is a great time to trade extra seedlings, dahlia tubers, plant divisions, seeds, pots, houseplants...pretty much anything a gardener might want or need.<br />

Everyone please post what plants, seedlings, etc you have to trade. Confirmed trades will be agreed on between interested parties, but you are welcome to bring any extra plants with you on the date for impromptu trading as well.
