It’s Official — The Globe is Warming
The mainstream paper, USA Today recently published an article titled The debate’s over: Globe is warming. This must certainly be a turning point in the debate on climate change. More and more groups see global warming as a real threat. Industry is stepping up to the plate with research dollars and influential religious leaders are calling for planning and action.
Confronted with the mounting evidence that the climate is changing, industry leaders are compelled to respond. Long range planning is essential for success in business. Companies are concerned about the potential impacts of climate change on their futures.
The National Religious Partnership for the Environment, with representatives from the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops, National Association of Evangelicals and National Council of Churches wrote in their statement, “Global warming is a universal moral challenge” (from the article). Religion and social groups will need to develop strategies to guide people through the potential conflicts that could result from global warming.
The debate can continue over the causes of global warming, but the planning required to deal with its potential fallout should start now.

Want to talk about this weblog entry? As of August 22, 2006, all new entries and most older entries are cross-posted to the UBC Botanical Garden Discussion Forums for discussion (you might need to use the search function to find the thread you are looking for).
This is an effort to reduce the amount of time spent dealing with spam (the forums are very good at stopping spam, the weblog commenting system is not so good).
Older entries already containing comments remain open for discussion.
