Oregon Flora Project Atlas

Kudos to the people behind the Oregon Flora Project Atlas! They've developed a web site with a tool that maps specimen location data from the Oregon State University Herbarium onto maps of Oregon.

This will be a very handy guide for when we at the UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research start expanding our collection of plants from the Pacific Northwest in the next few years, particularly as we'll be emphasizing documented wild-collected seed. When we collect seed, we also collect voucher specimens for herbaria; it is almost certain that some of those collections made from Oregon will then be deposited in the herbarium at Oregon State (as well as the UBC Herbarium). This will then expand the dataset, and make the tool even more comprehensive (and useful).

Congratulations to all involved - it may have taken ten years, but it is certainly appreciated and admired.

Want to talk about this weblog entry? As of August 22, 2006, all new entries and most older entries are cross-posted to the UBC Botanical Garden Discussion Forums for discussion (you might need to use the search function to find the thread you are looking for).

This is an effort to reduce the amount of time spent dealing with spam (the forums are very good at stopping spam, the weblog commenting system is not so good).

Older entries already containing comments remain open for discussion.
