Plants of Washington Image Collection

The WTU Herbarium at the University of Washington’s Burke Museum has created a website that features an image database of the plants of Washington state. WTU’s Plants of Washington Image Collection contains over 5700 photos of plants found in the state, organized by family, genus, scientific name, and common name.

Along with the photos, each species page displays distribution maps, descriptive information, and nomenclature and synonymy. Links to WTU herbarium’s specimens and images of the species in other databases are provided if available.

Website visitors can do an identification key search to match an unidentified plant's characteristics to specimens in the collection.

Want to talk about this weblog entry? As of August 22, 2006, all new entries and most older entries are cross-posted to the UBC Botanical Garden Discussion Forums for discussion (you might need to use the search function to find the thread you are looking for).

This is an effort to reduce the amount of time spent dealing with spam (the forums are very good at stopping spam, the weblog commenting system is not so good).

Older entries already containing comments remain open for discussion.
