Premier Committed to Supporting RBG in Hamilton
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty has promised to give the financially strapped Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton the support it needs to stay open. Although no guarantees of additional provincial funding were made, the premier was confident that a plan could be worked out to keep the gardens open.
Earlier reports in the media had claimed the garden might close its doors on July 31 if additional funding was not received. McGuinty asserts “Rumours of the demise of the RBG are greatly exaggerated.” Representatives of the province, RBG's board of directors, and the city of Hamilton are working out a solution to the gardens economic problems.
