Young Actor Dies of Monkshood Poisoning
Andre Noble, a 25 year-old actor from Newfoundland, died July 30 after coming in contact with a poisonous plant on an outing to Silver Fox Island near his family's home in Centreville. A medical examiner in Newfoundland confirmed that poison from a monkshood (aconite) plant caused the death.
It is not known how the actor came in contact with the toxin (as little as five millilitres of sap from the plant can kill an adult. He was a vegetarian and had consumed wild plants while exploring the island with friends. The plant is sometimes mistaken for wild parsley. Poisoning can also occur through skin contact.

Want to talk about this weblog entry? As of August 22, 2006, all new entries and most older entries are cross-posted to the UBC Botanical Garden Discussion Forums for discussion (you might need to use the search function to find the thread you are looking for).
This is an effort to reduce the amount of time spent dealing with spam (the forums are very good at stopping spam, the weblog commenting system is not so good).
Older entries already containing comments remain open for discussion.
