Tidepool.org
Tidepool.org filters over three dozen online news sources, selecting environmental and sustainable community news items with an emphasis on the Pacific “rainforest” coast of North America. The site is updated every weekday. In addition to the news items, it also features original news stories and commentary.
Tidepool.org taps into the notion that people in a biogeoclimatic region share a common experience and face common issues, such as conserving the flora and fauna, sustainable economic development and food security. Tidepool.org attempts to bring the community together to learn about the solutions and failures of others in the region.
Created in 1997, tidepool.org was established by Ecotrust, a Portland-based organization serving to share community experiences on environment and sustainability issues in the northwest coastal region. Originally created as a way for staff and affiliates to keep track of issues in the region, tidepool.org is now a resource for the greater community.

Want to talk about this weblog entry? As of August 22, 2006, all new entries and most older entries are cross-posted to the UBC Botanical Garden Discussion Forums for discussion (you might need to use the search function to find the thread you are looking for).
This is an effort to reduce the amount of time spent dealing with spam (the forums are very good at stopping spam, the weblog commenting system is not so good).
Older entries already containing comments remain open for discussion.
