Lighting a Candle for Middleton

On Friday, the 19th of December, UBC Botanical Garden will be lighting a candle in support of the National Botanic Garden of Wales, which faces closure due to funding shortfalls.

The National Botanic Garden of Wales is a charitable Trust, which was established for the new Millennium and opened to the public in May 2000. The Government of Wales has recently decided to refuse a plea for roughly $7 million CDN to keep the garden open.

On December 19, local supporters of the National Botanic Garden of Wales will form a human ring around the Great Glasshouse and light a candle to symbolise the 2204 botanic gardens around the world. Botanical gardens around the world will light candles in reply.

Want to talk about this weblog entry? As of August 22, 2006, all new entries and most older entries are cross-posted to the UBC Botanical Garden Discussion Forums for discussion (you might need to use the search function to find the thread you are looking for).

This is an effort to reduce the amount of time spent dealing with spam (the forums are very good at stopping spam, the weblog commenting system is not so good).

Older entries already containing comments remain open for discussion.
