Excellence in plant research, education and conservation is our mission at UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research.

We invite you to help us pursue our mission through a number of ways: donating as a Patron Member, becoming a Garden Pass Member, promoting the garden on the web or in person, visiting the garden, volunteering and more (web pages for volunteering coming soon). Your support is a welcome contribution to our efforts to research and understand plants, share our knowledge with the public locally and globally, teach the next generation of scientists, inspire artists and preserve the natural world.

Serving Future Generations

Some researchers and staff have witnessed the last remaining individuals of some species struggle to survive with no hope for a future. We at UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research are acutely aware that what we choose to do with our efforts and resources in the here and now have an impact on future generations of people and the future of biodiversity.

For example, the plant collections at UBC Botanical Garden represent plants from some of the most endangered temperate and subtropical montane areas of the world: southeast Asia, South America, Asia Minor, New Zealand and western North America. Growing collections of documented wild-origin plants from these regions allows UBC Botanical Garden to better understand these plants and help preserve the genetic uniqueness of plants from these areas to aid in restoration (known as ex situ conservation), if and when it becomes necessary.
