Lichen Monitoring Project in Vancouver

Volunteers are needed for a Community Lichen Monitoring project in the Greater Vancouver Area sponsored by Environment Canada's EMAN (Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Network). The project will survey lichen communities around Vancouver to use as indicators to characterize air quality.

The Legume Information System

The Legume Information System, a website focusing on the genetics, physiology and biochemistry of legumes has been created by the National Center for Genome Resources (NCGR) in Santa Fe, New Mexico in a cooperative agreement with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS).

Psyllids Website

Centre for Plant Research member, Diana Percy has launched a website about Psyllids (jumping plant lice). She writes, “This site is an ongoing project to present and summarize general information about psyllids, their biology, host plant associations and the economic and ecological impact that pysllids have on man-made and natural environments.”

International Symposium on the Biology of the Palm Family

The Linnean Society of London and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew are hosting a symposium on palm biology April 6-8, 2005. “New palm phylogenies have enhanced all areas of palm research. This international symposium aims to draw on these advances by focusing on the current status of palm research both in evolutionary biology and in the environment” (from the synposium announcement).

Tropical Plant Families of SE Asia Course

The National Herbarium of the Netherlands in Leiden is offering a masters level course on the flora of Southeast Asia June 13 – July 1, 2005. “Southeast Asia is one of the hotspots of global biodiversity: it contains more than 40,000 vascular plant species with a density ten times higher than the European flora” (from the course announcement).

Natural Health Product Research Conference
