Michael Donoghue will be presenting a seminar entitled “On the recurrence of form in evolution” on April 7th at 4pm in room 60 of the FNS building. The following day at 11am, he will be giving a talk on the “Biogeography of the Northern Hemisphere” at the Botanical Garden.

Plant Micromorphology Bibliographic Database

The Plant Micromorphology Bibliographic Database (PMBD) is a searchable database maintained by the Kew Micromorphology Group. It contains publication references covering an extensive range of subject areas dealing with higher plant micromorphology.

Call for medicinal plant experts

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is developing a database of Canadian wild medicinal plant experts. If you work or have expertise with any of Canada's 1500 medicinal wild plant species, you are invited to participate in this effort.
Please complete one of the following on-line forms:
- English: Wild Medicinal Plants Specialists Survey
- French: Enquête sur les spécialistes des plantes sauvages au Canada
Information submitted will be made available to the general public.

Summer Student Jobs at UBC Botanical Garden

Five summer student positions are available for the summer of 2004.
Students are hired for available summer positions at the UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research based on the following criteria:
- employment is limited to returning first, second and third year students enrolled in a recognized Agriculture, Botany, Horticulture or Plant Biology program at UBC or another university/college, and to returning UBC Masters of Landscape Architecture students
- preference will be given to UBC students, and to students who have not had previous summer employment at the UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research
- the term of employment is generally May to August

EVO-WIBO 2004

The evolutionary biologists of the Pacific Northwest will meet April 16-18, 2004 at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, Washington. This meeting has been called EVO-WIBO, for "Evolution - Washington, Idaho, British Columbia, and Oregon." All interested evolutionary biologists in the region and beyond are invited to attend.
The deadline for registration is March 15, 2004. Cost of registration is $80 USD for students and postdocs, $100 USD for faculty.
