Graduate Assistantship - Molecular Evolution
Category(-ies): Opportunities
Update: This position is now filled.
A Graduate Assistantship (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) is available in the lab of Dr. Keith Adams at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Centre for Plant Research in the area of plant molecular and genomic evolution, starting fall 2004. Dr. Adams is looking for a highly motivated graduate student to work with him on molecular evolution in polyploid and hybrid plants. Research will focus on expression and silencing of genes duplicated by polyploidy. Inquiries about the research area are welcome.

Garry Oak Ecosystems
-------
Dr. Ze'ev Gedalof is working on a research project with Marlow Pellatt, the goal of which is to better understand some of the past patterns of variability and critical ecological processes in Garry oak ecosystems in British Columbia. The project is looking to recruit an M.Sc. student to take on a component of this project.

Int'l Symposium on Asian Plant Diversity and Systematics
Category(-ies): Conferences , Systematics
From the conference website:
"Asia has an incredibly high diversity of plants. The flora of temperate Asia, e.g. China, Korea and Japan, comprises the largest number of species when compared with all other temperate regions of the world, and the tropical Asian flora is the most species-rich. The plant diversity of Asia is an ideal focus for evolutionary studies, biogeographical analysis, informatics, phylogenetics and systematics. This symposium aims to review current research on various aspects of Asian plant diversity, with emphasis on the use of modern approaches and techniques. The symposium will include six symposium sessions and one poster session."
