Centre for Plant Research Seminar

Please join us for a special guest lecture by Dr. Iain Taylor, Professor Emeritus of Botany and Professor of the Botanical Garden, UBC, at the Centre for Plant Research meeting this Friday March 23, 2007.

The talk, entitled Genetically Engineered Plants: When will we learn to manage this new invention?, starts at 10am.

Dr. Taylor's research interests concern scientific ethics, particularly scientific responsibility and risk assessment in plant biotechnology. There are two major goals. First, to understand how scientists perceive their professional rights and responsibilities, particularly areas of peer review, conduct of research and professional and public accountability. Second, to advance to development of guidelines for release of genetically modified plants, recognizing that plant breeding has made a quantum leap with the development of gene transfer technology.

The seminar is held in the CPR lounge (MacMillan 318).
