Phragmites Database Completed

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) has developed a database on the distribution of native and alien races of common reed, Phragmites australis in Canada. The database is accessible through the Canadian Biodiversity Information Facility (CBIF) web portal, a resource for biodiversity study with a network of information on geographically-referenced specimens.

With the assistance of Eastern Ontario Biodiversity Museum, AAFC staff compiled the data on the incidence of Phragmites australis from the records of 21 Canadian universities, museums and research centres.

To query the database, go to the Species Access section of the CBIF website, select Plants, then Search by taxonomic name, enter Phragmites and check AAFC Phragmites database, then click on search to see the listing of all records. (Loading the data can take time.) Click Map it at the bottom of the list to produce a dynamic map.
