Neil Towers (Sep. 28, 1923 – Nov. 15, 2004)

With great sadness, the Centre for Plant Research mourns the loss of Dr. Neil Towers, UBC Emeritus Professor of Botany. Dr. Towers joined the UBC Faculty in 1964, where he ardently pursued his research and teaching until his death. Dr. Towers was well known for his work in botany and phytochemistry and recognized as one of the world's most cited scientists.

Researchers valued their time in Dr. Towers' lab at the Centre for Plant Research. He was a most energetic and inspiring man. A memorial event will be held in the afternoon of Thursday, December 16th at the UBC Botanical Garden.

A biography and his article “Some Memories of a Budding Scientist in North America (1946-1965)” can be read in the Botanical Electronic News archives: Professor George Hugh Neil Towers, Ph.D., F.R.S.C
