2003 Pacific Northwest Ecology and Evolution Retreat

The 2003 Pacific Northwest Ecology and Evolution Retreat is coming! This year's retreat is set to be held the weekend of October 31st to November 2nd, and you are cordially invited to attend.

This is a weekend of scientific talks and posters primarily from graduate students and post-docs working in Ecology and Evolution at UBC, SFU, UVIC, Western Washington University and the University of Washington. Held at the North Vancouver Outdoor School along the banks of the salmon-choked Cheakamus River, the retreat is a great opportunity to talk science, and meet other students in the region working in your field.

Presentations are invited on a wide range of topics, including population and community ecology, evolutionary biology, behavioral ecology, population genetics, global change biology, mathematical biology, biometry, and biogeochemistry. All grad students and post-docs are encouraged to give a talk or a poster, regardless of the stage of their research. Proposal posters look good, too, and let people know what you are working on.

The retreat begins with a social evening on Friday, October 31st, and continues with talks (including a keynote speaker) and posters on Saturday. Saturday evening is the blow-out Halloween party - you are encouraged to dress up in your finest biology-inspired and pagan outfits. Sunday morning activities have not yet been determined, though they will likely include some natural history time, and perhaps a discussion period on topics germane to the group.

The registration cost is $125 per person, including lodging and meals. The student's advisor traditionally covers the registration fee if the student presents a research talk or poster.
