Botanical Research Institutions (3)
Pacific Agrifood Research Centre Summerland laboratory // PARC Summerland (in BC, Canada) staff conduct research in (1) Horticulture and Environment, (2) Food Science and (3) Biotechnology. Horticulture and Environment research includes the tree fruit breeding programs, production systems, and entomology among others. The Food Science group brings added value to agricultural products through research on postharvest physiology, modified atmosphere packaging, sensory evaluation, and the exciting new area of functional foods. The Biotechnology scientists provide national leadership in research at the molecular level on plant/pathogen interactions and plant virology.
The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Inc. // Based in Ardmore, Oklahoma. The mission of the Foundation is to assist humanity in reaching its maximum usefulness by: (1) enabling individual farmers and ranchers to understand resource management better and achieve their goals through consultation, education, research and demonstration; (2) enhancing plant productivity through fundamental research and applied biotechnology; (3) assisting community service, health research and delivery systems, and educational and other selected nonprofit organizations through grants and employee involvement. The foundation has a strong plant biology program headed by Dr Rick Dixon and is a centre for Medicago genomics.
UBC Centre for Plant Research // Main research themes are evolution and biodiversity (including molecular systematics), plant physiology and biotic interactions, phytochemistry, evolutionary genomics (including the evolution of plant development - "evodevo"), plant biotechnology and breeding.
