Dryopteris cycadina
Dryopteris cycadina

I'm on vacation, so only a short written accompaniment today. – Daniel

The Herbarium at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden has an excellent article on Dryopteris cycadina, or shaggy wood-fern.

Dryopteris cycadina - Z6 - RHS Index of Garden Plants, Griffiths

Pojar & McKinnon list three dryopteris native to NW coast - D. expansa (shield fern), D. filix-mas (male fern) and D. arguta (coastal wood fern).

The shown plant is not Dryopteris cycadina - it is not even a member of the Section Hirtipedes at all. D. cycadina has black scales and pinnae, wich are very little lobed (almost entire), never entirely pinnate.

Ralk - any suggestions on what it might be? We'd sure like to get the plants in the collection labelled correctly.
