Apologies that today's entry is so late – I was updating the garden's web server last night, and ran into some difficulties that eventually spiralled into the site being entirely unavailable for twelve hours. Anyway, it's obviously up and running again, and everything is mostly working fine, though there are still a few troubles, so a short entry today.
The common name for this tomato relative is “kangaroo apple”, which hints at its native distribution: Australia and New Zealand. This plant is grown as an annual in the alpine garden, though it often survives a mild winter and persists as a perennial. The “Plants for a Future” database has a good account of the plant: Solanum laciniatum.

Hi,
I always enjoy looking at your pictures, and the Solanum today is absolutely striking, so much that I'd like to frame it and put it on my wall. Before doing that I wanted to make sure that I have your permission.
I haven't checked yet so I'm not sure the resolution of the yahoo.com image. Maybe it would print at 8X10?
Thanks for the consistently gorgeous photos,
Chris

Chris, it's certainly ok. The license-to-use is below the email-to-friend section on the page. As for quality, well, I don't think you'd be able to make a satisfactory 8x10 out of these images. You would likely need the original, and we haven't come up with a price for those kinds of requests at the garden yet. Send me an email if you're still interested (click on my name).

Hi,
I'm involved with Landscape students in England and found the Botanical image site exceptional in its close up photography, stunning infact. I'm interested in species and cultivars that we could introduce into the British Urban landscape in towns and cities.
Thanks for inspiring my enthusiasm again. I have been an Horticulturist for 32 years and this website was a pleasure to browse. I have lots of digital images myself of plants growing here in England.

Hi, This is great photo of the Solanum laciniatum. As it happens, we've been trying to find out what this plant was as we have one growing in our garden (we live in the South of England). The RHS gave us the name after seeing a photo and your web-site came up on google. I'be remembered to put you on our Favourites.
Regards,
John
