Partridge Berries?

Actually it's not partridge berries I'm wondering about, it's what Newfoundlanders call partridge berries. I've had a look on google and I'm convinced the two arnt the same.

Re: Partridge Berries?

I suspect the partridge berry of Newfoundland is this: Vaccinium vitis-idaea

Compare with Mitchella repens

Re: Partridge Berries?

I am wondering what those small ( about 1 cm ) white worms are that crawl out of the berries when they are picked early in the fall? There are no worms when the berries are picked later in October.

Re: Partridge Berries?

Nflder, it could be cherry fruit worm or the blueberry maggot.

Re: Partridge Berries?

Thanks, for the reply, of course it created a new question.
If these worms are the blueberry version, does that mean there are worms in our blueberries as well?
I've never seen worms in any of the blueberries I've picked, and this was a banner year for blueberries. I've got a dozen gallons in my freezer.
Am I supposed to be checking them for worms as well?

Re: Partridge Berries?

Nflder, you are very welcome. If you have cherry fruitworms you would see the damage when harvesting, or even before. You should find this helpful.
