Re: jade plants

I was just reading some old threads and came across yours. Jade plants will get burned if put outside in the sunlight, but most green ones should be fine in a sunny windowsill, they are succulents after all, who appreciate the sun. Having said that, I have found that yellow or white variegated jades, and Crassula arborescens (the blue gray one) can develop brown burn spots with too much sunlight. Jade plants need to be watered during their growing season, roughly Mar to Oct. Water thoroughly and then allow to dry somewhat. In winter however, you need to cut back on the water, and do not fertilize. Once a month of light watering is sufficient. Jades LOVE a holiday outside during the summer, but not in the sun. They need to be in a shady spot, and can tolerate a wee bit of dappled sunlight, but watch carefully. Getting them to bloom is a whole other topic that I need help with, but I hope this helps you a bit.

Re: jade plants

Grown in full sun in Honolulu. The problem would be the plants grown indoors here not having leaves formed in full sun, moving them from indoor light levels to outdoor.

Re: jade plants

Obviously. Goes for any houseplant don't you think? I imagine they are grown in full sun in South Africa, where I have heard they are from. Light levels in the pacific northwest a whole lot different than Honolulu, or South Africa.

Re: jade plants

when my jade plants need water, the time when i know is when the insides of the leaves get a little mushy, and then in about a day the leaves will b thick again
