"Worm Plant" Country Folk Name?

Dear Plant Forum,
My elderly neighbor gave me these beautiful plants. She and her great aunt call them "Worm Plants". I would appreciate any help in identifying this wonderful plant.
Worm Plant searches have proved to be exhausting!

The so called, "Worms" resemble early pine cones soft flexible similar to a flexible piece of plumbing.
The "worms" are placed in soil in the spring with Low Light, and perform wonderfully throughout summer.

After blooming and before frost you must cut back foliage and leave "Worms"{which look like the tips of pine trees} to rest over the winter. I place them inside without water or light. The flower itself resembles a miniature morning glory, however the
bloom's throat points downward. The foliage is a deep forest green.

Thank you,
Sincerely
Butterprint

Other possibilities: Sinningia or Gloxinia? (also in Gesneriaceae, related to Achimenes)
