stinky spagnum moss

I just bought some spagnum? moss to repot some orchards and what a stink any suggestions ,will it go away now that it is no longer in the plastic bag? Also they are selling Japanese Maples in pots at the garden center can they be grown indoors?

Probably stored in the sun or otherwise caused to spoil. I wouldn't use it. Japanese maples are outdoor plants.
