Inherited plant, need to know what it is.

I got this plant from a friend of a friend. They said it was a "mother-in law's plant". I couldn't match that with what I found online. Can someone here help me out? I would appreciate it very much. I am not sure how to care for it.

Hi maybe a Schefflera (Brassaia actinophylla)

I agree with the Schefflera. Mother in laws tongue may be the plant you had in mind which is Sansevieria species.
