Alnus sieboldiana

I found this japanese alnus species with rather impressive, erect, 2,5cm high cones during a mountain hike near Kyoto.

Very nice - that's even larger than Alnus cordata 'cones'.

I didn't really expect this photo to be taken as photo of the day so quickly. I loved your text - very nice. What concerns the "cones" - I simply didn't know the correct english word for "Fruchtstand" infructescence.
