can anyone tell me what these are?

Hi,

I'm very green to plants and just inherited these. Can anyone tell me what they are called and how to best care for them? For instance, the second one--the one that is only green on the very ends--Is it supposed to look like this? Can I cut each piece of new growth off and plant it? And the fourth one--the grassy one with the tall flowers--any suggestions on how to make it stand up better and hold a prettier shape rather than haphazardly growing in all directions? The same one seems to be spawning many new bulbs--how often should I be "thinning" the planter--how many bulbs can grow together without it harming the others? Many many thanks for any info.

Holiday cactus (Zygocactus/Schlumbergera)
Aloe barbadensis (or similar)
Hoya
Spider plant (probably, if not flowering spike will soon show otherwise)

Leaves and flower spikes too narrow and pale for clivia.

Re: can anyone tell me what these are?

ya the last one is a spider plant ..
all the plants are in need of some good care and possibly repotting with fresh dirt on all ..
the christmas cactus needs some watering also ..

Re: can anyone tell me what these are?

Looks to me like (along the same lines as others have said):
Schlumbergera truncata
Aloe vera
Hoya carnosa
Hippeastrum (Amaryllis)

Re: can anyone tell me what these are?

Hi all,

Thank you for your helpful replies to my plant identification questions. The only one of the 4 that there seems to be some uncertainty about is the last one--I've heard Clivia, spider plant, and Amarylis. Now that it is flowering I thought it might be easier to ID. Anyone?

Also as for the Holiday cactus--I've heard that you are supposed to put them in the dark for awhile to induce flowering. What time of year should I do that and for how long? And do I still water them the same amount while they are in the dark?

Many thanks! and Happy New Year to all.

Hi, can you make your pix smaller before posting them? That looks like a Daylily to me.

Re: can anyone tell me what these are?

Not a Daylily....one of the earlier suggestions of Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) appears to be correct.

Re: can anyone tell me what these are?

it does look like a Amarylus .. it just looked like a spider plant when it hadnt flower.. looked just like the flower spike for the spider plant ..

the christmas cactus can be put into a darker spot for about 4 weeks before bringing it out into sun .. and do this about begining of Oct .. reduce water some while in the dark.. dont have to be tottaly dark area.. i had mine in the bathroom wich hardly got any sunlight .. and it bloomed .. about 3 weeks after i brought it out ..
