Plant that smells of syrup, Help!!!!

I work in a building and one of my friends has a plant that smells of maple syrup. Very strong maple syrup. Every leaf has the smell. Can anyone tell me what type of plant it is?

Can you either describe the plant in as much detail as possible (leaf shape, color, edging, size, growth habit (alternate or parallel on the branch, etc.) or get a picture of it (with your phone?) because it would help a lot.

I have never seen it as a house plant, but the Katsura tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum) smells like maple syrup... actually I think it smells like cotton candy. It has beautiful heart-shaped leaves.
