schefflera with no leaves

I have been battling scales on a ficus and a schefflera. I gave the ficus a good wacking and it has really come back. The schefflera has not come back and the rest of the leaves have dropped - I do not think that there is anymore insect on it though.

It is currently out of its pot for inspection. It has two main stems. One stem is "normal" aside from being bare. The other stem feels like the inside has withered and that the outside skin is a tad larger than the firm inner stem. This second stem also has a little sucker that popped out of it that I never trimmed, but it, too, has lost its leaves.

My plan is to repot it and hope that some buds grow. But I think it is a long-shot. Does any one have any advice on what would help it? I do think that it was not in enough light, and I am going to put it directly under a plant light.

Thank you,
Cindy

Leave it alone. I don't know what you did to make it drop all of it's leaves, but I suggest stopping and never doing it again. Leave a long time between waters, as it has no leaves, and let it be. Cross your fingers.

Re: schefflera with no leaves

Thank you. My only hope is that it buds something. Just checking if there was anything else I could do. It is a very old schefflera, at least 20 years, so I a really hope it can pull through.
