Can you help Identify this plant?

My wife and I somehow got this plant a few months ago, I can not even remember how now. It seemed to be doing fine until a month ago then it started turning brown all over. We transplanted it to a much larger pot today, but we have no clue what kind of plant it is, or how to care for it. Can anyone please tell us what plant this is and how to care for it? Thanks in advance

My mom had a sago palm that turned brown just like yours. She cut all of the dead leaves off and before long, new growth started appear.
