Arggghhh slugs!

Hey there:

I've just discovered that I have slugs in some of my houseplants (ferns, begonias, and phals). I'll tell you what I've been doing, and if anyone has some better ideas, well, I'm open to suggestion.

I've been trying the potato trick (slices of potato atop the soil) and discarding the slugs I find underneath. They are very small slugs, the size of, well, hmmm, a few mm's long anyway. Time-consuming. However if this is the best I can do, well I'll stick with it. I'm hesitant to try chemical controls at this time of the year, what with the plants sitting on my kitchen counter, and kiddies underfoot...any better ideas?

Re: Arggghhh slugs!

you can tyr giving your palnts a dip in horticultural oil, ts non toxic mineral oil just mix some in a bucket and dunk the roots of your plants in it for about 30 secs, it will get rid of the problem. you can also try the beer traps by setting them up beside you houseplants.

Re: Arggghhh slugs!

Chester,

I think you'll find that these little "slugs" are in fact fungus gnat larva. I tried the potato trick too. The easiest thing is just to water less or water from the bottom.
