Re: help! plant with spade-shaped leaves...

Hi Kristen591,
Does this plant vine, or have any vine-like features? If it does, this plant looks to me to be a Heart Leaf Philodendron. However, I don't see any vines yet, the stems look to be quite long...I to would be interested to know if it is not a philly.

Re: help! plant with spade-shaped leaves...

Possible that it's some kind of Tilia? That would be more likely if it came from a real nursery rather than e.g. Wal-Mart....

Re: help! plant with spade-shaped leaves...

It looks like the Tilia leaves are somewhat jagged around the edges, these are completely smooth......

Re: help! plant with spade-shaped leaves...

This is a tropical aroid such as a philodendron. There is also a smaller plant with divided leaves, perhaps a schefflera growing with it. Both are too small and young to be showing the adult characteristics.

Re: help! plant with spade-shaped leaves...

It looks like what you have is a Split Leaf Philodendron Monstera Deliciosa. Young plants may have leaves that are entirely unbroken but as they mature they develop the characteristic perforations and split edges.

Re: help! plant with spade-shaped leaves...

I agree it could be a immature split leaf philodendron .. i would wait for another leaf or 2 to determine .. and i also second what RonB said about a second plant being in that pot a starting of a Scheff ..

Re: help! plant with spade-shaped leaves...

i think it looks like an anthurium without any flowers, and couls possible if it was bought at walmart, they tend to keep things around even if they are done flowering. we just got a whole shipment of anthuriums into the flower shop i work at and some didn't have flowers and looked exactly like that and they have all the same growth habits as the plant in your picture.
