please help identify this houseplant!

hi,
if anyone could help me identify this plant it'd be a great help. my cat keeps eating it and i want to make sure it's not poisonous. i bought it at a grocery store where they call all their plants "tropical foliage" and have no other info on them

also if anyone has tips of keeping kitty from eating plants...i tried cayenne pepper and he seemed detered at first but then his obsession for my plant overcame his natural kitty instincts and he murdered it in my sleep :(

THANKS

Re: please help identify this houseplant!

Looks like Yucca guatemalensis (syn. Y. elephantipes), Spineless Yucca.

Re: please help identify this houseplant!

It could also be a Yucca aloifolia Spanish Bayonet or Dagger Plant. They are quite similar in appearance but the Yucca aloifolia has more ridged leaves. I used to have a Yucca aloifolia, my cat munched on it a bit before I moved it out of her reach. She never suffered ill effects from it and is alive and well today, this was about 8 years ago.

'Corn Plant' is the vernacular for Dracaena fragrans which is similar in appearance to yucca.

Re: please help identify this houseplant!

I agree with yucca, and in your right picture it looks like you have mite damage on the lower leaves. Safer soap or soapy water should help clear it up. You should remove badly infested leaves.
