Identification Help: What is this plant?

It looks familiar but I am having trouble identifying.

Maybe some kind of schefflera.

I really don't think that's a schefflera, but more info. would help - is it growing indoors somewhere?

This belongs to a friend of mine, growing indoors in sunny window. Leaves not the correct shape and too thin for schleffera. The only clue for identification that I can see is how new growth comes from base like philodendron, dieffenbachia, etc. Thanks for all the responses.
