Fig tree with yellow leaves

My fig tree is showing yellow leaves. It is in a tub and is part of a plant that my husband's grandfather brought to the US from Italy. It is very important to us that it stay healthy. It is four feet high and is on the south side of the house. I planted it in potting soil and some peat. It is kept watered. Any ideas as to why some of the leaves are turning yellow? It has grown several inches and started new leaves since I received it.

It's turning yellow because it's in potting soil and peat - which hold water way longer than figs like, plus you're watering too often. They're Meditarranean trees and need fast draining soil with lots of grit, small aquarium gravel in the mix, and no peat, but soil with larger particles.
