School project -- please help if you can!

If anyone can help me identify this plant, I would greatly appreciate it. My professor gave me a cutting and I'm having a hard time figuring out what it is. I've attached three pictures to this post. What I know about the plant: the internodes are swollen -- they're full of starch and the plant had started to grow adventitious roots. The leaves are growing in alternating pairs and the leaves are kind of waxy.

Thank you for your help!

If this is a school project, I hesitate to do your work for you. I will tell you that this plant is in the Urticaceae. Joe
