Gunnera invasion

Has any one read that article about Gunnera Tinctoria in New Zealand?
I had no idea how invasive they were. I'm not growing any, but it was still interesting to see the problems they are having with a plant that many people would like to have. They are talking of banning many of the large leaf varieties including G.Manicata (which I do have).

I realise its a long address, Has anyone heard of the same sort of invasive problems here yet?

Wrong climate. Not even fully hardy here.

Re: Gunnera invasion

Sure, seeds too, if I understand you correctly. The reason for caution in labelling something invasive is that invasiveness tends to be local or regional.

It's safe to plant locally.

Re: Gunnera invasion

Had a look at it just now - some amazing (and sad) pictures of its invasiveness along the coasts.
