I planted this Orange tree about 16 months ago. In the beginning it had hard time. Lost much of its leaves, probably because I planted it right before summer. Then few months back, this curling leaves started to appear. How do I heal my Orange tree please?
Hi
here in the tropics we constantly get leafminer (phyllocnistis citrlla)on most of our citrus, it wont kill your orange tree, it just looks unsightly and no body likes to have it on there citrus.
the best thing we have found is to remove the infected leaves and prune back the tree and than spray in sucession with pest oil every 2weeks, it will keep it under control.
Do not pluck the leaves off your tree, NOR prune the branches back.. Citrus leaf miner infestations will NOT harm your tree, they only make the tree unsightly. The damaged leaves still produce plenty of photosynthates (the tree's food), thus should be left on the tree. Citrus leaf miners are endemic in Southern California, and trees in your area will have some damage most every year. If you follow the above advice, you will need to pull the leaves off your tree, and prune the trees branches back every year, which of course, will damage or kill the tree. Citrus leaf miners are VERY COMMON the world over in all warm citrus growing areas. Go to your garden center and purchase a spray called Admire Pro. Admire Pro is made to control leaf miners on citrus. The leaf miner does not attack the tree's first flush of new growth. Therefore, you will not need to spray until the tree puts forth it second flush of new foliage. Further, you ONLY need to spray the new growth, not the older mature leaves, as the miner only infest new growth. It is too late for this year, as the leaves are already damaged. You can also purchase traps that releases the sexual mating scent, that attracts the insect and then kill it. However, know whatever you do, your tree will always have some leaf miner damage. If you remove leaves from your tree, and prune the tree back you will be DOING MUCH MORE DAMAGE to your tree than the LITTLE OR NO damage caused by the leaf miner. Good luck to you and your tree. - Miller (1,169-)
